On World Forest Protection Day, the Company celebrates the importance of the ecosystem to the world
Norsul, a Brazilian company with tradition in long course and coastal trade shipping in Brazil, which is now expanding into multimodality, has sustainability as one of the company’s most important values. Therefore, it is proud to be the first 100% carbon Carbon Neutralcompany in the coastal trade segment in the world through the Norsul Carbon Neutral Program, which aims to preserve the Standing Forests, understanding their importance to the world.
Serving as major fire barriers by not letting fire spread with their tall, dense vegetation, forests are also a source of food, raw materials, and biodiversity. They act in the regulation of the climate and are the habitat of 80% of the Earth’s living beings. For every hectare of forest that disappears in the Amazon, we have 400 to 500 tons of carbon dioxide gas entering the atmosphere. There, the accumulation of carbon prevents solar radiation from escaping and forms a heat bubble, a phenomenon known as the greenhouse effect.
When we have a standing forest or climax bioeconomy, the cleared areas of forest are regenerated, taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
The Norsul Carbon Neutral Neutral Program operates precisely on this front, since it works through the purchase of carbon credits generated from conservation activities in the Brazilian Amazon Forest, with the objective of reducing deforestation and avoiding degradation of the vegetation cover in a way that everyone wins: planet, local communities, company, clients and partners. The credits allow the brand to encourage the socioeconomic development of local communities, and support the conservation of carbon stocks.
